Frequently Asked Questions

Understandably, you might have some questions about what coaching is really all about. Below are some questions I have been asked over the years and some questions that I should have been asked.

Please read below for a more in-depth information about my coaching practice.

What is a life coach, and how is a lifestyle coach different?

Generally speaking, a life coach is someone who is focused on helping people make transformational changes and improvements in their lives.  They can aid in many areas of an individual’s life, such as relationships, careers, and personal desires, in terms of setting goals and helping to figure out what is getting in the way of true fulfillment.  There seems to be a coach for practically anything you can imagine you need help with these days.

As a lifestyle coach, I integrate a “whole person” centered approach to what I feel are the essential aspects of a person’s life:  The mind, the body and the spirit.  It is important to understand how all of these important elements of a person’s being are connected and that if one is out of balance, it will be more difficult to have true success in the other areas. Even though I am not a certified physical trainer, or a nutritionist, I have resources for my clients and make sure that together we are addressing areas of strengths and areas that need more support, for best possible outcomes.

What are the main benefits of hiring you as a life coach?

Depending on what you are looking to work through, or achieve, and what your own level of commitment is to the process, the main benefits you will experience are, increased clarity in determining what you most desire, improved mindset in dealing with negative & limiting beliefs and help with creating a path to achieve your dreams and goals. There is a huge benefit of reconnecting to your true self, which will help you improve your relationships, both personally and professionally. You will also benefit from an understanding of mindfulness (and its many practices) and how it can play an important role in your awareness and ability to stay focused on what’s important.

What is the difference between your life coaching, consulting, and your ROAM trips?

The life coaching aspect is a one on one process between me and my client, creating personal goals and plans on an individual basis.  The consulting process is when I work within a company, usually hired by an owner or manager, to help figure out what would best serve certain individuals and/or teams for increased employee satisfaction and productivity. The process with these individuals within the company is the same as my life coaching.  My ROAM excursions are adventures I plan or plan for a group if requested.  These trips are mainly based in bringing mindfulness to travel through engaging and dynamic experiences.  Read more about ROAM.

What makes you different from other coaches? Do you have a niche?

My niche is more about what I do, my process, and how I do it, and less about a particular type of person. My clients are adult men and woman as well as young adults. Individuals who are looking to grow, make positive changes in their life, and want to feel more empowered both personally and professionally are usually those who benefit most from my coaching services.

What makes me different than many other coaches is the fact that I am certified and licensed as a life coach and a psychotherapist. This allows for a continuous level of support and mentoring as you move forward with your goals. Life stages and aging might be linear, but life’s experiences and events are not. This is especially true any time you are looking to make positive changes, tackle faulty beliefs, and create new outcomes. You will benefit from my ability to hold space for whatever you bring to the coaching relationship, all while holding you to higher version of yourself, and to the goals I know you can achieve.

What is your main approach to coaching?

The coaching relationship starts with the philosophy that my clients are naturally resourceful and whole. This alliance between me and my clients is built on trust and respect in acknowledging past stories, current situations, and significant desires for the future. The first few sessions are information gathering where I can get a sense for the bigger picture of my clients’ life experience – this happens through listening, questioning, and a few exercises – we are working together to determine strengths, values, visions, and areas of imbalance in their lives. My main approach is based on strengths and forward action, but very often, things come up in clients lives when going through the coaching process. This could be something outside of the coaching relationship that affects what is happening to them, or many times, arises precisely because of the coaching relationship, due in large part to the personal nature of self-exploration. This is where my dual background comes in as a significant advantage, as it allows me to hold space for my clients to process what is going on in a way that is beneficial, all while, holding the agenda for them in their desire to grow, stay on course and move forward.

My coaching is not a formulated, pre-scripted experience. There is always structure to outcome, however, in meeting my clients where they are, is always at the core of the coaching relationship.

How long does the coaching relationship last?

For individual life coaching, my coaching packages are built around what has seemingly been most helpful to my clients. Six- months is the most common timeframe in terms of sessions and time for my clients to make any real impact and changes in their lives. I also have three-month packages as well as maintenance options after the initial coaching. At any given time, I have clients in any and all phases of these packages.

What are some other specifics to the coaching process?

How often do we meet?
For the first month, we might meet weekly and then sessions will move to every other week. This allows us to connect more quickly and then take time between sessions for life and ability to process what needs to be done between sessions.

How long are the sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long – a few emails in-between are also available if needed

How do we meet?
If you live close my location, we can meet at my office, but most clients will meet over zoom which works very well.

What’s your favorite thing about being a coach?
My clients are as varied as their individual stories and experiences. What I find most impressive about my clients is the determination in which they seek personal development and the courage to do what it takes in order to make that happen. Their willingness to learn, grow and experience life in a different way, in order to get different results is amazing. As a trusted companion to their inner world and growth process, I learn much from my clients that often leaves me feeling a tremendous sense of awe at what I was able to be a part, and witness of.
What can I (or should I) expect from you as a coach?
Besides my educational background, experience and training, you can expect professionalism, honesty, compassion, respect, and intuitive understanding. You can also expect my capacity to hold safe space, while also holding you accountable to your dreams and goals, as well as my directness to cut through to the heart of the matter, and last but definitely not least, humor, as we build and cross bridges together!
What do you (or should you) expect from your clients?
First, I need to acknowledge the courage that it takes to come forward and put yourself out there for change. That is often the first and very scary step for many people. So, I already know my clients are brave, just by walking through the door! After that, I would expect commitment (to themselves and the coaching relationship), curiosity to learn, honesty, and an openness to trying new ways of thinking and being. A sincere attempt at full engagement in the process of their own transformation is also very important, and although I do understand that things come up in life, respect for keeping scheduled appointments is important to the commitment.
How do I get started?

I understand that committing to a 3- or 6-month or longer, coaching package can be intimidating for someone who has never done life coaching before, does not know me, and does not know what to expect. That is why I offer a full 50-minute intro coaching session at a reduced rate.

Say yes to showing up for your magnificent life!
